400V vs. 800V Architecture

The electrical architecture of the car dictates how fast it can accept a charge. Older 400-volt systems (used by Tesla, BMW, and Rivian) typically max out around 200-250 kW and taper off quickly. Newer 800-volt systems (found in Kia, Hyundai, and Porsche) allow for thinner internal cabling, less heat generation, and sustained charging speeds of 230-270 kW. If you frequently drive long distances, an 800V car will shave roughly 10 to 15 minutes off every charging stop.

The Importance of Route Planning and Preconditioning
